West Highland Way
The West Highland Way, originally conceived in the 1960s and completed in October 1980 was Scotland's first official long distance route. The route starts on the outskirts of Glasgow over the next 95miles moves through The Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, over Rannoch Moor to the finish in Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis.
Over the course of it's length The West Highland Way passes through a wide range of different terrains, ranging from lowland moors, through dense woodland and rolling hills, to high mountainous regions. This variety of environments provides habitats for a diverse range of wildlife species, both flora and fauna. Some species are more common than others and some are rarely seen. If you are lucky enough to spot one of the rarer varieties, consider yourself privileged.
Rob Roy Way
The Rob Roy Way is a new long distance walking route which traverses through the southern Highlands of Scotland. The route covers 78 miles and starts in Drymen before moving through the Loch Ard forest to Aberfoyle. The route then moves through the Menteith Hills before descending into Callander. The route then follows the old Stirling to Oban railway line to Strathyre. The final stage of the route has you going through Killin, Kenmore, Aberfeldy before ending the route in Pitlochry.
